Objectives:
  • Student will engage with dramatic play materials
  • Student will practice retelling skills
CDA Competency Standard:  
II.7.3a
  • Activities and materials encourage children to develop their imaginations
a) Dramatic play materials and activities are available for children daily
Materials: ​
  • cookie sheets
  • The Gingerbread Man (any version will work)
  • cooking utensils (measuring cups, whisks, etc.)
  • bowls
  • play oven
  • gingerbread man cookie cutter
  • brown paper
  • markers
  • scissors

Procedure: 
  1. Set out the dramatic play materials in the center
  2. Read The Gingerbread Man with students, stopping periodically to discuss the story.
  3. Invite students to reenact what happened in the story in the dramatic play center 
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record the student’s retelling skills. What parts of the story were they able to act out? Did they miss any parts?
